Brainy Bunch Captures 1st Place Champions Award at FIRST LEGO League Robotics Regional Qualifying Tournament


The Brainy Bunch, an energetic group of 8th graders from Vienna and Great Falls, VA, captured the 1st Place Champions Award at the recent FIRST LEGO League Robotics Regional Qualifying Tournament that was held at Eagle Ridge Middle School, Ashburn, VA. The Brainy Bunch members--who all hail from Kilmer Middle School, Vienna, VA--are: Jordan Ganley; Ryan Gottwald; Aly Luckett; Arthur Tisseront; Dhriti Vij; and Andy Zhao.

The Brainy Bunch team won the 1st Place Champions Award in division 2 by scoring highly in four judging categories: Robot Design; Research about this year's theme of food safety; Core Values Teamwork; and Robot Performance.

As a result of placing 1st in the category of Robot Performance, the Brainy Bunch advanced to the VA-DC FLL Robotics Championship Tournament held Dec. 3rd-4th at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA where they won the 1st Place Grand Champion Award (so 1st Place overall in the State of VA - DC in Division B (9-14 yrs old)!

Team mascot Christina Luckett is a 3rd grader from Louise Archer Elementary School.
