Continuing his oratorical success all the way to the top, Thomas Mercherikunnel won the 1st place prize in the Capital-Virginia District Optimist Club Oratorical Contest. The topic of for this year's competition was "Why My Voice is Important." The award comes with $2,500 in scholarship money for Thomas to put towards his pursuit of higher education.
